The Tendon Transfer for Traumatic Drop Foot


Abstract
28 cases for traumatic Drop Foot were studied at Department of Orthpedic Surgery, Kwangju Triservice Hospital from May. 1966 to Jan. 1972.
The applied operation given consisted of Warren modified 2 tailed transfer in 17 cases, Srinivasan 2 tailed transfer in 6 cases, Carayon Dual transfer in 2 cases and Brand transfer in 3 cases.
The results of Warren modified 2 tailed transfer were more effective correction for dropped toe, varus and lateral instability than those of other alternative method.
Analysis of the results showed correlation between the angle of dorsiflexion and the range of active movement of the ankle which represent in 15 cases among the 28 cases.
When contracture of the Tendo-Calcaneus in 12 cases were present simultaneous lengthening, some improved both the angle of dorsiflexion and the range of active movement.
The applied patients had associated injuries which represented fractures in 70.6%, skin defect in 14%, Foreign bodies in 7% and vascular(artery) injuresies in 3.6%.
